Engine and Drivetrain
The same Eagle 706 Chevy motor and Lenco 4 speed transmission used in the Rover will be used in the Stude. The motor is based around an all-aluminium Donovan block with Dart Big Chief heads bolted to it. It has a sheet metal manifold with a full nitrous oxide injection system. The engine will be slightly modified by Eagle Racing engines for the new season and will make approximately 2000 hp and 1800 lbs/ft torque (about 3 times the power output of a formula one car and 20 times the amount of a standard car). The gearbox is a manually air shifted Lenco 4-speed clutchless planetary transmission. This is hooked to the wheels via a chrome-moly prop shaft and a fabricated chrome-moly axle housing with an aluminium Strange Ultra-Case third member and 9.5" gears. Pro Mod racecars use a lot of new, complicated technology and to run the car it takes a dedicated, experienced crew. The crew for the Studebaker in 2000 includes Mark Balzaretti, Simon Smith, Ray Simpson and Jerry Clayton. Without a crew it would be impossible to run a car of this complexity.
